Blog Archive 2024 Apr
Mon Apr 1 = This morning I met Josh Boyle, so now I will be engaging on Instagram as well as posting on all the social media platforms.
- On the way home I topped the tank, for the last time before tour, at Costco gasoline.
- The rain had just stopped and no more is forecast for the next few days, so I ran my van through my favorite automatic car wash followed by an engine cleaning in a wand bay. Next time, I'll reverse that order. Can't have a dusty engine.
- I did my final working my feet in my twin-tip board's foot straps and hanging in my harness (to develop caluses) before stowing the board under my van's bed and the harness in my van's special compartment, under where all the comedy stuff will go.
- Got to bed at 11:25 for 9 hours of sleep
Tue Apr 2 = Busy all day organizing things to pack in my van for tomorrows tour departure
- I left on today's big trip after I shaved my hairs and did a - poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
- Great Clips, nearby, my new hair-cup venue, saving $9
- Mountainside Fitness, at Desert Ridge, for a shower and toenail trimming
- Nancy Perry Productions in Glendale, to pick up my new order of T-shirts. They look great! Thanks, Nancy
- Fitness 1 in the same shopping center for a brief heavy legs workout to earn a
- Frosty
- The The 9oz chocolate/cinnamon protein treat, that I mix up six at a time, which is my weekly reward for doing a heavy legs workout
- Winco Foods for raisins and refrigerated saur kraut
- Back home I put 5 sunscreens on the house, processed, collated and packed the T-shirts, set things out for tomorrow's meals and generally packed things to load in the van tomorrow.
- Here's my packed merch box: 57 lb of T-shirts, display stuff etc. This photo will help me remember how to fit everything in with a full load of shirts.
- Got to bed at 11:00 for 9 hours of sleep
Wed Apr 3 = This morning I squeezed in doing emails and my blog for yesterday, then took everything out to my van to put it in Tour Mode, doing the drivers' side cabinets and drawers first, then backing the van into the garage to load all the comedy stuff that goes into the back.
- I went way out to East Mesa for one last visit with
- Cindy
- my younger brother George's wife who had a major stroke in 2022
one last time on the way out of town for my tour. George was at a birthday party. Cindy enjoyed the part of my Alzheimer's routine that I did for her.
- The drive to Tucson was uneventful. I got to The Screening Room a little before 5pm, in plenty of time. 5pm would have been just fine.
- For the show, I picked fourth on the list and ended up being number three because no one had signed up for number three. It was a small but responsive crowd of 22, and one of them became my latest fan:
- I left the theater before the end of the show with about six comedians remaining.
- I spent the night at
Camping World southeast of Tucson.
- Got to bed at 11:07 for 9 hours of good sleep
Thu Apr 4 = A guy in a white Chevrolet Silveradt pickup truck parked beside me when I was not looking. When I finally got out of my van to arrange my "bed" into a "couch" I noticed he had a kiteboarding decal on the back. I went onto Camping World to look for the customer, but he was nowhere to be found. I left my card on the windshield with a note to phone me.
- It is standard to forget things when I leave home. One year I forgot to close the front door. Last year I forgot to turn the AC on. In April it was still cool, but of course woujld not stay that way.
- This year I forgot nothing major, but when I get home in Auguse I'll find what being in the refrigerator for four months does to fresh broccoli and pitted prunes.
- This morning, after breakfast, I went to a Planet Fitness for an elliptical ride, a workout and two new fans (first 2 pics).
- I couldn't have been more wrong. Al left me a phone message that I had left the note on his wife's white Silverado pickup. When I called him I learned that his she works at Camping World.
- I went all over, looking for some broccoli and prunes. Instead of taking me to a Giant Grocery my Garmin GPS tried to convence me that an ambandoned area near a freeway with shome broken pieces of a concrete road was a Giant grocery store.
- I finally found the broccoli at a Food City, but never found the prunes.
- It was a good show at Laffs Comedy Cafe. Since I was from out of town they gave me five minutes instead of the normal three. Also I got a new fan there (third pic).
- Again, I spent the night at
Camping World southeast of Tucson.
- Got to bed at 11:31 for 9:02 hours of sleep
Fri Apr 5 = Today was a long day of driving, especially since I lost an hour due to the time shift from MST to MT.
- I arrived at the American Legion Post 36 about 5:00 just in time to set up my merch and videos for the 6pm show with the help of a couple good guys there.
- It was the largest audience I have ever had at a veterans post, over 300. They came to see me, which is cool, but most evidently did not cine to laugh, although they enjoyed the show.
- Now I understand why comedy clubs open with their "are you ready..." followed by "That's not good enough" routine. I will start doing that with my opening.
I got some new fans there (first five pictures below):
- To have a head start driving to to Ingram TX tomorrow, I spent the night at the new Cracker Barrel southeast of El Paso. Since it was my treat night I had one of their Coca Cola chocolate cakes with a dip of ice cream, and got the manager and my server as new fans (last pic).
- Got to bed at 12:28 for 8:50 hours of sleep
Sat Apr 6 = I kept the pedal to the metal and, about sunset, arrived at the area I had picked for observing the eclipse on Monday, got acquainted with a couple of the residents, checked with the manager about doing a comedy show for the residents tomorrow evening and my spending two nights in the empty area near the big tree. She checked with the owner who lives in Mexico then texted me that the owner did not want a comedy show on the property. Well, I thought it was a good idea.
- By the big tree is where I spent the night... a good and quiet night.
- Got to bed at 11:25 for 9 hours of sleep.
Sun Apr 7 = Around noon I drove to the Ingram City Park where I found a little shade, got out some detergent and washed off, probably, 50 pounds of bugs from the front of my van. Then I went to a self-service car wash and washed the van for $3.
- I did a little grocery shopping at the Kirrville Walmart and netted two new fans (first two pics below)
- The rest of the afternoon and evening I spent at the Kerrville Anytime Fitness in Kerrville for a heavy torso workout, working on my website and five new fans (last four pics):
- My website crashed locally but, fortunately, not online, no one knew about it but me. For some strange reason the local root folder (htdocs) appeared in an
error folder which I had never noticed before. That folder is evidently where FileZilla keeps its error information. I held my breath when I moved htdocs up to the xamppfiles folder, but that fixed my website. Whew!
- Back to Walmart for the night
- Got to bed at 10:44 FOR 9:10 hours of sleep
Mon Apr 8 = Today was an absolutely memorable day with some firsts for me.
- It started off in my selected area south of Ingram TX with the total solar eclipse. The first one I saw where it got really dark. My eclipse buddy and new fan was Ryan who lives nearby. Although we had a thin overcast with two layers of clouds moving about, we were able to get some glances of the crescent sun. The clouds completely obscured the sun during totality.
- On the way out of Ingram I stopped by the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department, told them my next show was Saturday in San Antonio so I had five days to be somewhere and volunteered to do a stand up comedy show for them. Together we arranged to do a show on Friday, Apr 12, 2024; 7:00pm;
Ingram Volunteer Fire Department;
215 HWY 39 ;
Ingram, TX 78025
- When I went to the Kerrville library, it was closed due to solar eclipse, so I got a new fan (first pic), crossed the Guadalupe River on a foot bridge and wandered around the Louise Hayes Park where they had a big stage and lots of vendors. I walked well over a mile and got nine more fans.
- Then, on my way to the Kerrville Anytime Fitness I stopped by a field by Guadalupe Street for my FIRST Helicopter ride and Hunter McDonald and his dad as new fans. Hunter was helping out with the helicopter rides. What a swell guy. The helicopter was a Robinson R44 Ravin-2 with a 540 HP air-cooled Lycoming engine running on 100 octane low-lead aviation fuel. You can see the second helicopter (same kind) flying in the background to the upper right.
- From the helicopter, looking west northwest from Kerrville toward Ingram, you can see the Guadalupe River and Junction Highway (Texas 27).
- Back at the Anytime Fitness, I did a workout, made this poster for Friday's show, updated my website and got a new fan:
- I spent the night in the Kerrville Walmart parking lot.
- Got to bed at 12:17 for 9 hours of sleep
Tue Apr 9 = This morning I did my usual, piddly grocery shopping in Walmart and got a new fan:
- Most of the rest of the day I hung around the Butt-Holdsworth Library in Kerrville TX until they closed at 6pm. While there I re-did this blog for Apr 8th to make it easier to understand.
- On the way to Anytime Fitness I bought some Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Franks at HEB because Walmart does not have them and stopped by the Office Max for three 11x17" posters for Friday's show.
- At the Kerrville Anytime Fitness I did a fast light legs workout and updated my website.
- Got to bed at 11:57 for 8:54 hours of sleep
Wed Apr 10 = After breakfast I bought jam and bread and got a new fan (first fan pic) in Walmart and then fixed and ate lunch, figuring it would give me a good long session at the library withoug interruption until they close at 6.
- The Butt-Holdsworth Library in Kerrville TX almost takes your breath away. Here are some pics I took with my cell phone. I corrected the verticals with my phone's perspective tool and reduced the file sizes for the Internet with
Photo Resizer HD.
- I stayed at the library until six, got a new fan (second fan pic), then, at Big Lots, got 1 ounce of spray glue for the loose mesh on my wind cage,
got 2 gallons of gas at a Shell station to get me to a Costco on the west side of San Antonio on Saturday and then went to Anytime Fitness for a light arms workout, a
- poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
,
shower and three new fans (last two fan pics) but could not add the evening's fans or check my email because Anytime's wifi was down.
- For the night I drove to my usual spot in the Walmart parking lot for the coldest night so far on this tour with a forecast low of 49° F.
- Got to bed at 11:46 for 8:48 hours of sleep
Thu Apr 11 = Google just sent me my travels during the month of March, 2024:
- Today's big brain-straining project was organizing and drawing the reminder icons I will be using to remember my 2024 full shows. Tomorrow I'll do the same for my show Opening Introductions.
- Before leaving the library, I worked on balancing my checking account
- In the library parking lot I visited with an older gentleman who shared this saying from his sergeant. "Fear and superstition overcome knowledge and understanding on a daily basis."
- The Kerrville Anytime Fitness was my next stop, for a light torso workout and a new fan, then I went to the Kerville Walmart for the night, where I bought a bag of apples and got three more fans:
- Got to bed at 11:31 for 9:03 hours of sleep
Fri Apr 12 = This morning was the end of the test I stargted back home in Phoenix for the second Phonak hearing aid charging box. It performed about the same as the first and recharged the aids from 40-50% up to 100% 12 times.
- Before breakfast I got my van organized for "Day Mode" and drove to the
Ingram Fire House where I will be doing tonight's show. In the middle of my breakfast, as I had hoped, Ray, the Fire Chief came around and helped me put my two chasing LED signs in the window, announcing the show.
- I went over my show sequence while finishing breakfast then drove to the Butt-Holdsworth Library in Kerrville to update this blog and add "Fire house Show" to my list of firsts.
- On the way to the fire house I made my final stop at Anytime Fitness for two minutes of Jacob's Ladder, a brief heavy legs workout and a new fan:
- The audience of eight at the fire house enjoyed my one hour show and I sold two head-design T-shirts. Cory, fresh out of high school, helped me set up for the show and pack up after the show. I wish I had asked him to be on my fan web page.
- To load up my van after the show, they let me back it into the fire station. That made me feel important, privileged ... and small.
- I drove up to the Cracker Barrel east of Kerrville for the night to be on the way to San Antonio for Costco gas and tomorrow's show at the American Legion Post 300
- Got to bed at 11:51 for 9:07 hours of sleep
Sat Apr 13 = The big harry project this morning after breakfast, in my van in the Cracker Barrel parking lot was to re-doo my T-shirt sales spreadsheet so it not only keeps track of the total shirts sold, but now, also how many of each design:
- Trafic was slow with construction going to a San Antonio Walmart for grapefruit and stuff, Costco for gas and then on to the American Legion Post 300 for comedy. We had the show out in the pavilion. It was a good show, except for the wind, and I got eight new fans. My video recordings were unusable due to the wind shaking the cameras.
- After the show, there in the pavilion, I got the videos on my cameras' SD cards cleared off and figured out, I hope, how to get my Sony KDR-CX405 camcorder #5 to record while on external power.
- I spent the night there at the post parked by the pavilion.
- Got to bed at 12:10 for 8:58 hours of sleep
Sun Apr 14 = After breakfast I plugged my van into external power to run the refrigerator and charge the van's LiFePO4 house battery with my high tech Granite charger.
- I spent the morning at the American Legion, printing out and cutting 16-up microposters for my Comedy-n-Sunset shows in June, figuring out how to renew my ham radio licence, updating this blog and my fan web page
- It gave me a really good feeling and was a lot of work, but this afternoon I logged the T-shirts I sold since the first of March. I wanted to log them by design (head or stool) but couldn't do that until I adjusted the spreadsheet for two designs. Now I am up to date and it should be smoth sailing in the future, since I have the Square app on my phone, the sales spreadsheet and my ordering spreadsheeet all two-design enabled.
- I left the post about supper time, headed for Houston. It was getting alittle late when I stopped by a Walmart for frozen vegetables and two new fans
and I was still a ways from the Cracker Barrel where I intended to spend the night. It turns out that the Walmart where I was, allowed overnight parking, so I just spent the night there in Sealy, TX.
- Got to bed at 11:31 for 9 hours of sleep
Mon Apr 15 - This morning I went into the Sealy Walmart for a bell pepper and a fan
- Then I drove to a library in western Houston and hung out from about noon until time to go to the
The Riot Comedy Club open mic. The library's Internet had problems with my Gmail and my FileZilla, so I ended up tethering to my phone for email and updating my website.
- Driving the irregular streets of Houston is like riding a bronco. Hang on!
- At the open mic I was lucky to get drawn from their new bucket system for three minutes of fun. I got to meet Mason James who books the shows and Aaron who produces them.
- After the show I drove about 20 minutes to the Baytown TX Cracker Barrel, east of Houston on I-10, on my way to Mobile, AL.
- Got to bed at 12:21am for 8:54 hours of sleep
Tue Apr 16 = Although I was parked across the parking lot from the Cracker Barrel building I had Internet so worked up a new cover image for my next social media reel,
Wonky about Peyroni Disease.
- Here I thought I was doing Cracker Barrel a favor and saving them some tme and thus some money. My ignorance backfired and I saved them neither. In my van I joind Cracker Barrel Online and ordered my lunch at 12:30pm, intending to eat it there in their Baytown restaurant. It turns out that dining "in" is not an option for online orders, so they brought my order in a bag for me to eat at one of their tables. I was like a square peg in their round hole. Live and learn.
- Until 4pm I made and uploaded my new social media reels then hit the road, heading toward Mobile, AL, plsnning to spend the night at a Baton Rouge Cracker Barrel..
- On the way I got expensive ($3.199/gal) gas on the way at a Shell station in Iowa, LA. Instead of getting just three gallons to get me to the Costco in Mobile, AL, I got distracted going in to the bathroom and topped the tank. It probably cost me an extra $9.
- I arrived at the Baton Rouge Cracker Barell about bedtime.
- Got to bed at 11:26 for 9:10 hours of sleep
Wed Apr 17 = Ten new fans today. You know, life is all about people.
- I really need to pay closer attention. This morning I got my even# breakfast half started before I realized it was an odd day. I went ahead and had the even breakfast, but without the vegetables, which I got there at the Cracker Barrel. I hung out until about 1:30 updating my Fans and Blog webpages. I also caught up with my Past Appearances PDF.
- I really need to pay closer attention. I left the foam stadium cushion I use because the wooden chairs are hard on the chair. (I didn't notice it until I got to the Walmart in Mobile, AL).
- I was planning to see what is wrong with my van's running water system, but it was too late and I needed to get on the road.
- My first stop in Mobile, AL was their Crunch Fitness, which I was glad to see open and thriving. I did an elliptical and slow heavy legs workouts, a
- poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
, a shower and got eight new fans.
- Then to the nearby Walmart for a replacement stadium cushion, broccoli, two new fans and to spend the night.
- (See
Fans Web Page for details).
- Got to bed at 11:55 for 8:50 hours of sleep
Thu Apr 18 = This morning in the Mobile, AL Walmart parking lot I got Lune, a new fan:
- Sometimes you stumble across something and it is good. With Filezilla, the program that I use to upload to my website, somehow i accedently turned on a synchronizing feature so when I select a website folder on either my computer or on the Internet, that folder is also selected on the other... small convience but a time saver. It also reduces the chance of errors :)
- I spent most of the day at the Springhill Library in Mobile, AL until it closed at 8pm. I got a lot done. The bigest job was followup contacts for eight retarded veterans posts which have not replied to my contract emails for shows in July, UGH!
- Spent the night at the Mobile, AL Cracker Barrel and got to bed at 11:23 for 9:08 hours of sleep
Fri Apr 19 = I hung around the Cracker Barrel until about lunch time, getting two new fans (first pic) and eating one of their salads - not the best because the only lettuce it includes is iceberg.
- I fixed lunch and ate it on the drive south to Dauphin Island.
- With intermitent sun, I did a
- sun
- I lay in the sun for 10 minutes on my back and 10 minutes on my stomach at solar noon when the sun rays are maximized for the skin's production of vitamin D
/run at the Dauphin Island Beach where I also got four new fans (second & third pic). The last time I was here was 15-20 years aago for kiteboarding.
- I spent about an hour at the Theodore Library with marginal Internet, then on to the Theodore Walmart for a new fan (fourth pic) and to work in my van with pretty good Internet.
- Got to bed at the Walmart at 11:49 for 8:49 hours of sleep
Sat Apr 20 = With the Internet where I was parked, I worked in my van on my website.
- Later, at a Planet Fitness I did an elliptical and heavy arms workout and got four new fans. Later in the parking lot of America's Thrift Store I got another fan.
- At 11 this morning the commander of the post for tonight's show textd me, "What's the story?" I didn't get the text because I check my texts morning and evening. Our previous contact confirming the show was a month ago by text on March 19th. When I got to the post this afternoon they had Karaoke scheduled at the same time as my show. The Karaoke guy was understanding and we worked out for me to do some comedy followed by Karaoke. I did 29 minutes. and got three new fans. Randy, in the yellow shirt was a big help in setting up and packing up my comedy stuff.
- I spent the night in the back of the post.
- Got to bed at 11:50 for 8:56 hours of sleep
Sun Apr 21 = This afternoon I did a heavy torso workout at the Pensacola Planet fitness and got a new (first pic).
- Motivated by getting a new fan yesterday (pic by my van) who worked at the
Americas Thrift Store (ATS), for the first time, I set foot into one of their stores. It is similar in merchandise and price to Goodwill, only a little better organized.
- Tonight's show was supposed to be at 5pm but, for some reason, my brain was planning on my usual 7pm. As I finished wiping my van windows after running it through a touchless car wash I was proud of myself for planning to arrive an hour and a half before show time. I got a phone call at 5:00 from the post wondering where I was for the show, then jumpped in my van and drove 28 minutes to the post.
- It was a good show. Their PA system did not work well, so I used mine (which you can see in the background by my right ear in the second picture)... a good call because it filled the large hall and everyone could hear for a fun 57 minutes of comedy with the audience of 20.
- This evening, my Pixel 7 phone was not sending my fan pictures through Gmail. Rebooting the phone solved the problem. Whew!
- In my overnight spot in the post's overflow parking field, I scared off four deer who ran back into the adjacent woods.
- It was a relatively cold night with a forecast of 51° F. It got down to 56° F in my van. I was OK under one layer of my comforter plus a baby comforter on my feet.
- Got to bed at 11:28 for 9:03 hours of sleep.
Mon Apr 22 = After breakfast this morning I sawed off the lip of the tray I use for my kitchen utensils. That way it fits better and allows my bags of raisins, powdered milk and oatmeal to fit better. It took almost a half hour, but will make my life a little easier in the mornings.
- Then off, across Mobile Bay to Pensacola in Florida where I will be doing shows at the end of the week
- I spent most of the afternoon at the Western Branch Library until they closed at 7pm, doing some bookings, updating my website and getting a new fan (first pic); then drove down to the end of the Johnson Beach Road, scouting out for tomorrow's noon-time sun and beach run and getting four new fans (second pic).
- On the way to my Walmart night spot I stopped by the Purple Parrot Tiki Bar and found that they no longer are doing the Tuesday open mics and even then it were not for stand up comedy. I did meet Brandy Johnson (KJ) of Red Rock Entertainment (third pic) who was doing Karaoke. She let me do three minutes of stand up. I had a good, laughing, audience of 13... even went out to my van for T-shirts and sold three and got another fan (fourth pic). Brandy said I could do comedy anytime at her shows :)
- Back at the Walmart I bought a couple items and got another new fan (fifth pic).
- Got to bed at 12:50 for 9 hours of sleep
Tue Apr 23 = After breakfast I was running a little later than expected so skipped the library and drove directly to Johnson Beach. The easternmost parking lot was full. I had to wait until someone left before I could get a spot. Evidently lots of people had come to watch an "air show" put on by Air Force jets practicing maneuvers and formation flying.
-
- Sunning
- lie in the sun for 10 minutes on my back and 10 minutes on my stomach at solar noon when the sun rays are maximized for the skin's production of vitamin D
today involved some logistics, taking sunscreen and several options for shorts and swim trunks. I ended walking about a mile east of the parking lot where no one was around, and stripped down for about a half hour of full-body walking and sunning... always enjoyable.
- At the West Branch Library I looked Brandy Johnson up on Facebook so, when the library closed, headed to the Moonshine Saloon where she was scheduled for Karaoke. I did six minutes of standup to a good audience of 12. I sold more T-shirts than I do at some of my veterans' shows.
- My little shirtcase ran out of some sizes of T-shirts, and I knew I would have to do it eventually and Moonshine had a bunch of empty tables, was the ideal place to do it, so buff Michael Steward (second pic) carried in my big merch box and I replenish the supply in the shirtcase. It took quite a while, but the T-shirts are well organized, easy to find and inventory... and I had good company and appreciated the karaoke.
- For the night I drove east to the Warrington Walmart for good morning shade but closer to a busy road than I would have liked. Ya can't have everything.
- Got to bed at 12:15 for 9 hours of sleep
Wed Apr 24 = After breakfast I went into Walmart for frozen vegetables and a new fan (first pic).
- I found a nearby Navy Federal Credit Union with a
- Shared Branch
- a credit union that is part of the nationwide Shared Branch network through which I can deposit cash from my T-shirt sales into my Phoenix credit union
ATM. Automation is a beautiful thing.
- Then back, under a shade tree at the Walmart where I spent the night for this morning's BIG project - getting my van's water system working again. It was not as difficult as I anticipated. I just had to reseat the 12-Volt plug and refill the water container.
- After eating lunch there I headed to my Internet library for the day with the widest (appx 24") cushiest (4" of foam seats and backs) library chairs I have ever seen - at the Pensacola State College Warrington Campus Library :)
- I got a lot accomplished, although never everything that needed to be done. I did my monthly blog rollover in a record 13:55 minutes for my Mac, close to my record for the Windows computer.
-
-
- Got to bed at TIMEforHOURS hours of sleep
Thu Apr 25 = At the Walmart this morning, in my van, I did some extensive testing of my #5 Sony HDRCX405 and found that it was not recording from external power was because I needed a 3-amp USB type A power supply instead of a 2A one.
- Then in I did a little shopping and got a new fan (first pic), and found thay did not have the power supply I wanted.
- Then I went to Best Buy and neither did they. While there I got two new fans (second pic) and bought a type C 3A power supply that I will have to use with an adapter :(
I spent most of the rest of the day on the second floor of the Pensacola State College library - for exercise, never taking the elevator.
- From a suggestion of Josh Graves, I tried something new: posting a reel on social media directly from my phone without processing, figured my followers might want to hear from me more often if not from unpolished reels. So I shot a one-minute video in one of the libraries study pods and put it up on all five: Youtube shorts, FaceBook, X, Instagram and TikTok.
- After the library I visited a couple of veteran offices in different buildings to tell them about my weekend shows, then it took me about a half hour of walking to find in which parking lot I had parked my van... carelessness lack of attention or Alzheimer's??
- I went to Planet Fitness for a slow heavy legs workout and four new fans (next four pics). It is the first time I saw such a busy Planet Fitness, especially with so many serious body builders.
- I spent the night at the Creighton Walmart in Pensacola under the final approach for PNS runway 17, which is the takeoff path for runway 35. Kinda cool, with a little plane noise.
In the parking lot I got three new fans (last two pics)
- Got to bed at 11:28 for 8:39 hours of sleep
Fri Apr 26 = As always, the adventure continues. Walmart, in my van was better than a library, with Internet and good shade until 2pm for adding yesterday's fans, updating my blog and mapping out my travels around Pensacola for the rest of the day. I even got in a 20-minute nap to make up for last night.
- First stop was an Anytime Fitness for an arms workout and the
- poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
which I forgot to do yesterday at Planet Fitness.
- Then off to the VFW Post 706 to set up things for this evening's show. Jose and two of his friends were a big help.
- Then off to PNS (Pensacola International Airport) to pick up Josh Graves who flew in from Phoenix to open for me. While waiting in the cell phone economy lot #1, I had time to eat supper and reconfigure the right front area for Josh as a passenger.
- We stopped at the
Queen Mary Hotel so Josh could check in and drop off some stuff, then headed down to the
VFW Post 706 in time for the show. We had aa responsive audience of 36 for Josh's 20 minutes and my 42.5 minutes. I sold 11 T-shirts and got a new fan:
- After packing everything up we drive back to the hotel for the night. We both had a good night: me in my van and Josh in his hotel room.
- Got to bed at 11:59 for about 9:18 hours of sleep because I forgot to set my alarm
Sat Apr 27 = On the way to Johnson's Beach this morning, Josh and I ate breakfast at
Brother's BBQ. Josh had fried eg rolls and I had collard greens and a pulled Pork "Sanwich" with my own 100% whole weeat bread.
- We got to the beach about noon. Josh did some beach walking while I
- sunned
- I lay in the sun for 12 minutes on my back and 12 minutes on my stomach at solar noon when the sun rays are maximized for the skin's production of vitamin D
, did push ups and a beach run.
- Next was a trip back up north to the hotel for Josh to take a shower and change to his comedy shorts and for me to catch up on my
past appearances spreadsheet, fans and this blog.
- With an audience of 20 the
AmVets Post 292 was not the the largest crowd, but they came to laugh and did a whole lot of it for Josh's opening of 20 minutes and my hour, which included trying to get the TV working for my video segment. Tonya finally got the TV working. They bought seven T-shirts and donated $201 to Alzheimer's research.
- After getting things packed up Josh and I hung around the bar, so I got to bed late.
- Got to bed at 1:03am for 9 hours of sleep
Sun Apr 28 = After my breakfast, I fixed the same breakfast for Josh - my delicious Grape-nuts/Cinnamon/nutmeg/ginger/milk/walnuts/raisins mixture. He really liked it.
- Later we drove across Mobile Bay from Pensacola, FL to the
Whippersnapper Comedy show at Cedar Street Social in Mobile. Josh made arrangements for 10 minutes for us on this booked show. It was a good show, with plush couch seating. I had the privilege of meeting Jody, Josh's dad (first pic).
- It was a good bunch of comedians (second pic) for the monthly show. To the right in the black is Josephine, the host. The headliner was Gale MzUnderstood (right in third pic).
- After the show we drove back across the bay to the Queen Mary Hotel in Pensacola for the night.
- Got to bed at 11:50 for 8:53 hours of sleep
Mon Apr 29 = After eating my nutritious oatmeal breakfast I fixed the same for Josh, which he did not like, so I had to throw it out.
- At
Another Cracked Egg Josh had breakfast, I had a glas of cranberry juice and got two new fans (first pic).
- After dropping Josh off at the PNS airport, I spent a couple hours at the Tryon Library, catching up on my Fans web page and getting a new fan (second pic) who stopped me after seeing my van magnets (third pic) before heading to a nearby Navy Federal to deposit some T-shirt cash before leaving Pensacola FL.
- I was going to spend the night in Selma, but only made it as far as the Greenville Walmart as bedtime approached. I bought some grapefruit, got two new fans in the bread aisle (fourth pic) and worked in my van on my Fans web page.
- Got to bed for 9 hours of sleep
Tue Apr 30 = I made it to the
Selma Dallas County Public Library, in downtown, with breakfast and lunch under my belt about noon and worked until they closed at 5:00. I got quite a lot done. Among other things I got a new fan (first pic) transfered all six media files from Friday's show and developed a system for doing so more efficiently in the future with my Mac. The key seems to be to only drag and drop only one file at a time, even if the computer has enough ports to do more.
- The Mac did not recognize my Crucial HDD-E until I hooked the drive up on a Windows computer and had it repair the drive.
- After the library I found two different YMCA locations that were closed, boarded up and in total disrepair in spite of having magnificent brick buildings and fancy YMCA signs. I finally did my heavy torso workout and got two new fans (second & third pics) at Body Builders Inc, a 40-year old gym here in Selma. I also located a currently open YMCA in western Selma.
- On my way to the Walmart which is in eastern Selma I stopped by a Dollar Tree for a new spray bottle that does not dribble and two new fans (last pic).
- Got to bed at 10:17 for 9:40 hours of sleep, waking with no alarm.
