Tue Nov 1 = Still cleaning off my desk.
- This evening's project was chatting with Printify, trying to figure what happened with the T-Shirts I ordered as a test. I thought I ordered two but only one arrived and it was not the color I wanted.
- Got to bed at 10:15

Wed Nov 2 = Since I have not had much luck contacting American Legion posts in the LA area for comedy shows, I phoned Carolina at the CA State American Legion office. We'll see what happens.
- I about fell out of my chair when I opened my credit card bill from Bank Of America, saying my account was delinquent. The bill included a late fee and some interest. I gave the representative the confirmation number I received when I scheduled the payment. We laughed along the way because making people laugh is what I do. I paid the bill through her and she reversed the fees. No one is perfect. It is what you do when you make a mistake that counts. Thank you BOA!
- Just before going to bed I made the mistake of checking my email. It was actually a good thing because I had some documents that needed to be DocuSigned for some land I am buying as a replacement property for a 1031 exchange. After reading the stuff I had a couple questions. Also it was late.
- Got to bed at 11:02

Thu Nov 3 = I got my new 43" monitor situated on my cleaned-off desk. Strangely the resolution varies according to the interface:
3840 x 2160
through a USB-C cable

1920 x 1080
through an HDMI cable

- To my website this evening, I added this picture that I took of a train in Vienna, Austria on my tour. My hotel (white with rectangular windows) is in the background.
train
- Got to bed at 9:51

Fri Nov 4 = Today I spent some time on the phone with Richard, my realtor, discussing what is going on out west in the Tonopah area where I am buying some land. I'll close on Monday.
- On a Leo Laporte Podcast, Mikah Sargent mentioned how good the Wacom drawing tablet is. My granddaughter is into drawing using her computer, so after too much research here's what I came up with:
Good info on drawing tablets
Wacom Intuos has no screen.
Same at Best Buy shown in use
Wacom Cintiq 16 (has a screen)
- Got to bed at 10:18

Sat Nov 5 = Today I tried for three hours to get into the Leo Laporte show. Of course I the phone lines were too busy the whole time.
- Got an email from Google. According to them, here are the places I visited on my travels during Oct.
map
- This evening I did a brief light legs/chest workout at LA Fitness.
- After the gym I was going to spend two hours redoing my online T-Shirt store, but I spent most of that time trying to get the legal descriptions squared away for my land purchase that is scheduled to close on Monday.
- I only had time to explore five T-Shirt companies to do my printing in the right colors, but no time to make a decision.
- Got to bed at 10:10

Sun Nov 6 = My neighbors across the street are having a garage sale today, so about 10:30 I took over a fancy but clunky analog wristwatch and the two monitors I just retired. I got $5 out of the watch, but the monitors did not sell.
- I attempted, again, to get into the Leo Laporte show.
- I lay in the sun for 20 minutes and, for the first time in about 20 years I got lazy and did not exercycle or exercise after. It flushes out my system. That may have been a mistake because this evening I was low on energy and had a headache.
- I reset my drip system interval from five days to seven.
- Got to bed at 10:01

Mon Nov 7 = The first thing on my morning schedule after making a phone call was to drive down to Security Title in Gilbert to sign the closing paperwork for the two 1031 parcels I am buying. I had to go to a nearby Chandler Arizona Financial CU to get a check for the "boot." There I met two fine young employees.
- It was an honor to get them as new fans. The picture below is the result of the first time I noticed or used my cell phone's [Blur Background] button.
Trey Soucy & Jalen Kortlever; AZFCU Chandler, AZ 11/7/22
Fan

- After Security Title, I went to Mesa where I visited
George & Cindy
my younger brother and his wife who live in east Mesa, Arizona and have a mountain place in Christopher Creek
. Cindy is in a rehab home there.
- On the way home near the 101 Scottsdale curve I did a fast light arms workout atEōS Fitness
- The big project for the afternoon and into the evening was finishing my online t-shirt website so the colors will all be correct, hopefully.
t-shirt
- Instead of going to bed on time, I set out my binoculars and stayed up to research and print out the schedule for tonight's lunar eclipse, figuring that I might catch it when getting up to pee.
- Got to bed at 10:41 :(
- When I got up to pee for the second time at 3:30am the eclipse was total. The best and easiest option for capturing the eclipse image was my Panasonic DMC-FZ150 camera as opposed to my cell phone or one of my Sony HDRCX405 camcorders. So I set the DMC-FZ150 on a tripod and took about 22 pictures. I was familiar enough with the camera to accomplish all the various settings in the dark without a flashlight :) Moon
(Click here for a 2.5MB broadband image of the moon area and about 45 surrounding stars)
- Got to bed after that pee at 4:02am and slept until my standard morning alarm at 7:45am, 3:43 hours later.

Tue Nov 8 = Today I found an email, saying that I will be at the Tempe Improv on Thursday (the day after tomorrow). Must have missed an email earlier, so I switched to fast track, modifying their poster to make this poster for that show. Come if you can. We'll have fun and do a lot of laughing!
poster
- This afternoon I tried to take a long nap to make up for last night's short sleeping, but was only able to stay in bed for about 15 minutes - too many things to do.
- Using MailChimp to send out 495 emails this evening worked better than usual. Probably because I had done it recently. I kept my test emails from ending up in the SPAM folder by not including links, caps or the word FREE. I included these things as part of the above image.
- I made 40, 8-up microposters (see above) for the show.
- Before bed I went to Anytime Fitness for a very brief light fast torso workout and to put some of my Turkey Posters on their bulletin board.
- Got to bed at 9:50, forgetting that I should have gotten to bed earlier to make up for sleep. Am I obsessed with sleeping? Yes! Trying to not be tired all the time.

Wed Nov 9 = Today I worked on my routine for tomorrow's Turkey Show and timed the set at 8 minutes for what I want to do. However, I do not want the pressure of trying to cram all that into a 5-minute set. That means it is time to pare stuff.
- I missed the ADOT webinar about the 101 loop improvement project, so listened to all 1:40 of it this afternoon and evening.
- This evening I went to Mountainside Fitness for a workout,
poster trim
weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
and shower after which I had one of my protein frosties.
- Got to bed at 9:52

Thu Nov 10 = I can't believe it has been three years and 10 months since I last appeared at the Tempe Improv. Most of today was spent preparing for my big five minutes onstage there for their annual Thanksgiving turkey competition.
- Preparation included a 1:45 hour nap in preparation for a late night out.
- The host was Doug Brown. Reece Muniz opened the show, then these contestants followed:
contestants
- After I went up, a lot of people told me that they though my set was really funny and enjoyed it.
- However the winner was well deserved, one of my fans, Andrew Orellana. Way to go, Andrew!
- After the show I sold six t-shirts and got these three new fans:
Ashleigh Cooper, Lou, Amber Hunter, Chris Reyes; Tempe Improv, AZ 11/10/22
Fan
- Got to bed, a happy camper, at 11:15

Fri Nov 11 = The next total solar eclipse in North America will be Monday April 8th, 2024. You'll have to wait 200 years for a similar one. Since it will occur around noon, it will be dramatic, and I plan on seeing it, probably from some little town in Texas.
eclipse US Path eclipse US Path eclipse US Path eclipse US Path
- This morning I updated my blog and uploaded the audio and video recordings from last night to my
XPS
Dell XPS-13 laptop computer with 13.3" touch screen, 60WHr Integrated Battery, Windows 10, Intel 7th Generation Core i7 CPU, 16gb memory and 1TB SSD
.
- As of today the 1031 exchange is complete, finally! The whole process was interesting, complicated and took too much of my time. All I have left to worry about is reporting it to the IRS on my 2022 taxes.
- I finally have my T-Shirts online with all the correct colors, I hope. The navy I got in the mail yesterday was good so I ordered a sample of each of the other colors as a double check. Here's the way my T-Shirt Shop looks:
Online T-Shirt Views Online T-Shirt Views
- To finish up with the T-Shirts, this afternoon and evening, I replenished the Shirt Case I take to open mics, from last night's sales. Then inventoried the shirts in my warehouse (the west end of my couch) and ordered nine different samples of various colors and sizes from Printify so I'll know what my online customers will be getting. I'll include the samples in my shirt case for a little color variety.
- This evening I got some overripe bananas at 99¢ only and did a brief slow heavy arms workout atEōS Fitness.
- Got to bed at 9:49 :)

Sat Nov 12 = Today's big project was to combine the six recordings, video and audio, from Thursday, get it produced and uploaded to my YouTube Channel. It unobtrusively includes eight camera switches in the first 42 seconds:

- My audience cam shows a couple of guys obviously enjoying my set but never applauding or laughing. They broke a little smile maybe once or twice. I could have had a lot of fun with them, but to get all the jokes into my five minutes, there was no time for audience work. No one knows that but me, but it was a bit of a downer. What I like about doing hour-long shows is that you have more time to have fun with the audience. However this video will be good for TV submissions because it was clean and did not involve much audience work.
- Also, after tonight, I started working on some fun responses for introductions as here where they say "...he calls himself..." "...he claims to be..." and "...he says he is..." America's Favorite Old Man. I don't claim. That's what all the Internet search engines say!
- Got to bed at 10:05

Sun Nov 13 = I got my checking statement downloaded. Now ready to check off the cleared items
- I checked the 15-day forecast and used the result as an excuse to remove the sun screens from five of my south and west-facing windows, to let in more solar heat during the day.
- Being inspired by the quality of the Sony AX-700 camcorder used by Josh Boyle for the two tight shots in my Thursday video (above), I checked the difference between high resolution and highest resolution settings on my little Sony HDRCX405 camcorders. I noticed very little difference.
- Just before bed I did a brief light fast legs workout here in my home gym.
- Got to bed at 9:57

Mon Nov 14 = This morning I researched and ordered a little 2,000 mAh 12v power pack for my 10" monitor so I can be centered in the videos of my shows when 120v power is not available for the monitor.
- This morning I attempted initial contacts (phone calls) to Elks Lodges in the LA area.
- At solar noon I sunned for vitamin D.
- After that I aired out the house for about 1.5 hours and got the CO2 in my kitchen down to 440 to 852 ppm.
- This evening I got my checkbook to balance on the first try :) and did all my monthly credit card payoffs. Bank of America is a pain, but with them I get 3% off on gas purchases.
- Just before bedtime I decided a good overnight project for my
XPS
Dell XPS-13 laptop computer with 13.3" touch screen, 60WHr Integrated Battery, Windows 10, Intel 7th Generation Core i7 CPU, 16gb memory and 1TB SSD
would be to have EaseUS back it up. Getting that started gave me a good feeling but put me to bed late.
- Got to bed at 11:10

Tue Nov 15 = On the agenda for today was researching about seven 100 Ah LiFePO4 batteries to replace my somewhat fading
LiFeMnPO
my van's 60 Ah Lithium/Iron/Manganese/Phosphate/Oxygen house battery
. The new LiFePO4 batteries have built in BMS (Battery Management Systems) that protect against over charge, over discharge, high temperature, low temperature and keep the cells balanced. With my current battery I have to manage these things myself with external circuitry. The old battery is still good, but does not have the capacity I need.
- First choice was Chins from Amazon and Walmart for $300 and second choice was Ampere Time APT-12V100AH, about $340 from Walmart ($450 with charger from Amazon).

Wed Nov 16 = This morning I worked on two tests at once. The first test was running down the Sony camcorder batteries to see if the USB power Y that I got from Amazon will power or charge two of the camcorders at once. Result: The white socket of the Y would not charge or operate the camcorders, but would power a little gooseneck LED light and charge my cell phone rapidly. The black socket of the Y charged everything as expected. The whole thing puzzles me.
- The second test was to see how long the little 12v 2000 mAh power supply would run the 10" monitor I use while recording my shows. In this test my television provided the content, the signal from the bottom camcorder provided the HDMI signal to the 10" screen and the new little 2000 mAh power block was running the screen. Below you can see the little power block sitting on top of the 10" screen. It kept the screen going for a little over five hours!
LiFePO4 100 Ah battery model
- At Esporta Fitness today I did my usual Wednesday
poster trim
weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
, shower and heavy legs workout. Then I drove on south in rush hour traffic...
- to Gateway Community College for an ADOT information and feedback session about an EV charging plan along the freeways for Arizona. I digested some interesting information but had ulterior motives, bending the ear of some of the big wigs about horribly distracting junk messages on the electronic highway signs.
- This evening I finished this full-sized 100 Ah LiFePo4 battery model to make sure it will fit in the scheme of things in my van. It is a little large but will be worth the 2/3 more energy for the refrigerator on my trips. Here you can see the model and the little model I made out of paper to make sure my cardboard plan would work.

Thu Nov 17 = This afternoon I took an hour nap, anticipating a late comedy night.
- On the way to tonight's comedy I went to Mesa to visit
George and Cindy
my younger brother and his wife who live in east Mesa, Arizona and have a mountain place in Christopher Creek
, who is in rehab after her stroke. I planned to spend an hour with them but, due to multiple crashes on the freeway we only had about 15 minutes. A bonus was seeing Kim, one of their daughters.
- The show at Improv Mania in Chandler was cool. They let me put my 6' Arizona Lou Merchandise banner on the wrought iron fence out front, the first time the banner saw the light of day here in Arizona.
- My set included my tweaked Alzheimer's set. I didn't get it quite right, but got closer. Next chance to get it right will be Monday at Devil's Advocate; 955 E University Dr in Tempe.
- These two old friends became my latest new fans:
James Barnette & Eric Buensuceso; Improv Mania, Chandler AZ 11/17/22
Fan

- After updating my website tonight I...
- Got to bed at 11:28

Fri Nov 18 = At solar noon I sunned for 20 minutes.
- My Canon P27-DH calculator keeps track of the date and does time calculations, features I didn't even know existed on little printing desk-top calculators until I bought this one at Goodwill (of course). I used the time calculations to figure my sleep deficit for the last three days. At 3:30pm I took a 1:20 nap after which I felt better. I never feel fully rested and full of energy.
- After supper I went toEōS Fitness for a poo and brief slow heavy arms workout. On the way and way back I stopped and bought some healthy greens. Back at home, since this was my treat night, I had the last ice cream sandwich in a 12-pack box.
- I accomplished a week of calls and contacts to California without speaking to anyone who could book one of my comedy show. I needed some positive vibes.
- I found good vibes in this 15-minute TED Talk by Mark Rober about tricking your brain into into being more successful. Just what I needed... so developed The Booking Game to make my booking efforts fun and challenging.

- Got to bed at 10:31

Sat Nov 19 = This morning I ran across this Tedx Talk on avoiding memory loss, but did not have time to watch it.

- The mailman was good to me today. I received a goodie box from Banner, the organization through which I support Alzheimer's research with the profits from my comedy and merchandise.
- Also I received the ten sample T-Shirts from my website through Printify. Thirty percent of them were not printed correctly. Before I put make a negative review, I'll contact Printify and see what can be done.
- No success booking veteran shows today, but I did play my new
The Booking Game
a game I developed for earning points with comedy show booking activities
for the first time, with a whopping score of 31, so I felt better.
- Got to bed at 10:10

- This evening I watched the Top 10 Tips to Keep Your Brain Young video from yesterday. I recommend it. Interestingly enough they recommended starting w 7.5 hours of sleep, stating that people who got 6 hours per night showed bad memory. People who got 9 hours showed worse memory. So, starting tonight, I think I'll try gradually getting less than my past goal of 10 hours.
- Got to bed at 10:35 for 9:12 of sleep

Mon Nov 21 = The plan today was to go through my comedy sequence for Alzheimers and go through the routine so much that I'd have it perfect for tonight at The Devil's Advocate in Tempe, but I forgot my losing things bit anyway.
- It was a good show with an unusually energetic audience. A lot of the energy was from a table of a dozen or so fraternity guys. Thanks to Steve Owens who ran the show and thanks to the bucket list, I opened the show after Steve's set.
- I didn't stay for the whole show and still got to bed late.
- Got to bed at 11:52pm for 7:55 of sleep

Tue Nov 22 = After doing my morning comedy writing I spent much of the rest of the day researching for and ordering $91 worth of additional stuff for my van's new "house" power. - Also I ordered a compact 30W USB wall charger for the Alcatel computer I use on tour for my video segments
- At solar noon I sunned for 20 minutes with mostly sunny skies
- Surprisingly enough, after the short night (for me) of sleep 7:55 last night, I did not get drowsy the entire day, although I did not have a whole lot of energy and had a slight headache most of the time.
- Got to bed at 9:53 for 9:54 of sleep

Wed Nov 23 = Know anyone who would like a good camcorder for the holidays? Today's project was putting my Canon on Craig's List:
Craig's List add

- More things were delivered for my van's LiFePO4 House Power project, including the LiFePO4 battery, itself.
- Got to bed at 10:11 for 9:36 of sleep

Thu Nov 24 = HAPPY THANKSGIVING for our country and all the opportunities we have. Of course we had a big trip today.
- First stop was theEōS Fitness Center in Mesa for a quick slow heavy arms workout.
- Next was about a mile east to visit
Cindy
my younger brother George's wife
, in rehab there. Shane, George's son, was on the phone with George and Cindy and it was neat to visit with him some. Cindy is slowly improving from her stroke. Lynette, one of George's daughters, and her family came. We all had a lot of fun which included playing a word-making card game with Cindy.
- Their kids were having arm wrestling and thumb war competitions. Of course I wanted to participate. I beat them all in everything, although Silas gave me a good run for my money in the thumb war.
- From there I went a little farther east to Becky and Matt's (
Rose Anne
My X wife who lives in Payson by a lake
's niece) for family and dinner. It was neat to visit with three generations from different parts of Arizona. Rose Anne had driven down from Payson with Barb, her sister-in-law and Barb's two grandkids. I was the oldest there until
Harold
Harold Dean Hayes, my techie EX brother-in-law
arrived.
Younger Generation Older Generation
- This group of 15 gathered out back for my 6-minute comedy show. I did my Old Man Alzheimer's Routine. Fun!
Comedy
- I set record with
The Booking Game
a game I developed for earning points with comedy show booking activities
when I got home. Earned 37 points for the day (see Nov 18, 2022 blog).
- Due to a discussion we had had about robotic vacuum cleaners, I researched a bunch of them at places like Consumer Report, PC Mag, The Wirecutter, Amazon, Walmart and Target. Of course not one model has everything I want: The best cleaning power and the best navigation around the house and around obstacles.
- I am getting to bed about 10 minutes later every night to see if I can work my way down to a more reasonable amount of sleep and still avoid things like colds.
- Got to bed at 10:35 for 9:13 of sleep

Fri Nov 25 = According to my scale this morning, I have two pounds to lose as a result of yesterday's Thanksgiving feast.
- I have started a series of tests for my van's new 100 Ah Chins LiFePO4 battery.
- Today's gym stop was LA Fitness for my brief slow heavy torso workout.
- Tonight I went out in the garage and took out most of the wiring for my old house battery. I took out a 100A ANL fuse, huge 2 AWG cables, Anderson connectors for the cables and an expensive KeyLine Iso-Pro 140 Amp automatic battery isolator that I no longer will need. Do you know anyone who could use one?
- Got to bed at 10:44 for 9:03 of sleep

Sat Nov 26 = According to my scale this morning, I am back down to my goal weight of 130 lb, having made it through another Thanksgiving after preemptively reduced the quantities for my meals by 10%.
- After breakfast and my 10 minutes of comedy writing, I emailed the first contract for my March Southern California Tour. The contract went to Elks Lodge 2050 in Westchester; , CA
- Here's what my new Chin LiFePO4 battery looks like outside... and inside, thanks to this excellent video by Will Prowse.
battery inside battery
- The breaker and LVD (Low Voltage Disconnect) arrived for my new system. I tested the LVD to make sure it will protect my new LiFePO4. The LVD's disconnect and reconnect voltages do not math those for my LiFePO4 so I won't get full use of the battery's capacity. That is the bad news. The good news is that the battery will last longer, not seeing a full discharge.
- After dark it took me less than 15 minutes to put up my Christmas lights - a LASER projector by a bush, aimed at my house with a light-sensing timer:
- Got to bed at 11:18 for 8:29 of sleep

Sun Nov 27 = At 2:07 this afternoon I tested my fully-charged LiFePO4 battery by running my Engle refrigerator in deep freeze mode.

Engel refrigerator
As a result the refrigerator runs almost continuously and maintains a temperature between -1° and +6° F. This is a pretty severe test because, even in hot weather, at normal refrigerator temperatures it will not run that much.
- My little compact pocket autoranging multimeter croaked so I researched nine of the latest ones and ordered one. Some of them even have colored screens. The one I ordered has a fake colored screen about as big as a cell phone and a rechargeable battery.
- Poking around my website, I discovered that I had never got around to adding photos for my April visit to Spaceport America. It was a big job but I got them added and even put the video up on YouTube. Here they are now:

- Christopher, the tour operator is a slight, soft-spoken, seemingly timid at times man, but evidently a good businessman who started Final Frontier Tours to specifically conduct at least three tours a week.
Tour Operator
- His friend and tour guide was a big, boisterous type with a booming voice. A perfect compliment.
Tour Operator
- This is the happy tour group in front of the headquarters. It was erected with a bladder under it to give it its shape. You can see the swooped control room roof to the right.
Tour Operator
- Inside the first person to greet you is the receptionist.
Tour Operator
- Then up to mission control. The control room is small because most of the control is done by computers.
Tour Operator
- Back outside, it is difficult to fathom this 110,152 square foot hanger that is large enough to hold the double-fuselage jet launch craft.
Tour Operator
- The fire department did not have a whole lot to do, except to impress us visitors.
Tour Operator
- I'm glad I rode their Factoid... once. It accommodates two but since I rode by myself I got to experience about double the G's; about three G's.

- Here is the spacecraft itself. Well, not really. This is an earlier test model.
Tour Operator

- Got to bed at 11:58 for 7:50 of sleep

Mon Nov 28 = The bad news is that I didn't get very good sleep last night. My battery woke me up twice. As a bench test, on Sunday I had started my new LiFePO4 battery, running my Engel refrigerator (under the counter to the left) in deep freeze mode, to set off an alarm when the LVD (low voltage disconnect) activated. I had no idea how long it would go. The alarm sounded at 1:04am and 6:04am. The good news is that I understand my battery and charger better. The battery ran my Engel in freezer mode for 35 hours!
- This is the test setup. The alarm sounder is the round blue thing.
battery
- I temporarily installed the battery in my van as a test. The van seemed to automatically charge it properly when the engine was running and disconnect properly when the engine was off.
- This afternoon I went to Esporta Fitness for a workout, Harbor Freight for some marine grade heat shrink and twice to Home Depot: for 6 AWG cable and foam mounting tape with which...
- I attached all the hardware to the battery.
- Got to bed at 11:55 for 7:50 of sleep

Tue Nov 29 = I got all the hardware wired up on my van "house" battery to marine specifications, with sealed tinned copper connectors. Here is front view of the the model I made, the new LiFePO4 battery (with seven 12v outlets and six USB charging ports) and the old
LiFeMnPO
my van's old Lithium/Iron/Manganese/Phosphate/Oxygen house battery
(with six 12v outlets and one USB charging port) which it replaces. In front of the new battery is the smart charger:

- The new battery is on its end. The front is actually the bottom of the battery in normal orientation and the back is actually the top of the battery in normal orientation. Here is the back view:

- This overhead view compares the sizes:
battery
- This morning I had a sneezing fit so ran the AC fan for half the day, taking advantage of its high performance filter.
- Got to bed at 11:23 for 8:25 of sleep.

Wed Nov 30 = I couldn't believe that the new digital smart multimeter I that was delivered today did not measure current. I assumed that all multimeters measure current just like cars all come with tires.
- So I spent much of the morning researching more digital multimeters.
- At solar noon I lay in the sun for 20 minutes.
- This afternoon and evening went like clockwork. Here at home, I joined in for a webinar sponsored by
Duet
The organization I support and through which I take non-driving seniors shopping and to their doctors' appointments
and featuring Dr. Patricio Reyes, Bridging the Gap: Caring for Caregivers. The webinar was to support people who care for family members with dementia. Although I'm not in that category, I figured it might be good if I had a little more background for my Alzheimer's comedy routine.
- After that I scooted off a Duet in-person event, "Giving in the Garden Party." It was neat to visit with old and new friends from Duet and their supporters. I do not often have the chance to see them in person.
- Then off to El Charro Hipster for their monthly open mic. It is the first time my new "Open Mics In Europe" routine saw the light of day, and my first show after turning 81.
- Got to bed at 11:23 for 8:25 of sleep
