Blog Archive 2020 Oct
Thu Oct 1 = Two weeks ago I had phoned my optometrist's office for a referral for possible cataract surgery. They blew me off when I asked them for information about the referral doctor. Someone dropped the ball and no one ever contacted me, so I phoned them this morning. They said there was no referral, but that they'd get it done.
- I took a two hour preemptive nap this afternoon since I knew I would be staying out late for a comedy show.
- Before leaving on my trip, I realized that my Maricopa County property taxes were due tomorrow, so I paid over $2k for the first half. Couldn't pay taxes for one parcel because I didn't notice that they added an
A
to the legal description. I'll get it paid tomorrow. Paying taxes is my excuse for not making it to a gym today.
- Comedy was fun at
JP'S Comedy Club way down in
Gilbert. I was second on the 9:30pm show and stayed clear to the end. It was the first time I put up one of my posters here in Arizona. Jim Perry, the owner, let me put it up on a big square post outside the club. I had no clear packaging tape with me, so borrowed some from Goodwill next door. My
Opening for Lou was a big hit.
- Got to bed at 1:01am. Good thing I had taken the nap!
Fri Oct 2 = Still no cataract referral from my optometrist's office, so I phoned again and got the same lady I talked to over two weeks ago. She gave me the information for the opthomologist, Dr. Duncan. When I phoned his office, Tim set me up with an appointment and said he would look for the arrival of the referral. Thanks, Tim.
- For my website, I updated this blog, added a
Lousim by Paul Newman and streamlined the
Email List
request for people who want to get on my email list.
- Today's trip was to LA Fitness for a
- poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
,
shower and first part of an arms workout.
- Got to bed at 10:37
Sat Oct 3 = This morning I activated my
- XPS
- Dell XPS-13 laptop computer with 13.3" touch screen, 60WHr Integrated Battery, Windows 10, Intel 7th Generation Core i7 CPU, 16gb memory and 1TB SSD
speech recognition. I thought it might save me time, but it is not at all accurate. I like my privacy so set it up to NOT use Microsoft's online analyses or to read my emails.
-
I've made it big time... well, at least a little closer. Thursday night at JP's Comedy Club, Durrell Hearns mentioned that he was going to stop hosting the open mic at Urban Beans. That evening when I got home I did some thinking, checked my calendar, and then messaged Durrell that I would be willing to host the show until the middle of March next year.
- It was my first time at
Urban Beans in
Midtown Phoenix. It was an unusual and neat variety show... and clean! Anthony, one of the employees, set up the movable stage and Nathanial, one of the owners set up quite a PA system, as well as special effects like a symbol, drums and a French horn. I did the set I usually do my first time at a new venue about Roman Numerals and being old.
- At the end of the show, a Durrell announced it was his last time hosting there and that the new host would be... Arizona Lou. I about fell off my chair, but instead took the stage (you know me and microphones) and thanked Durrell and Urban Beans for the privilege of being the new host, and invited everyone to come to the future shows.
- I guess I have a good reputation, as I was approved by the owners, having never met them prior to this visit.
- Got to bed at 10:22
Sun Oct 4 = This morning I had a nice phone visit with
- George & Cindy
- my younger brother and his wife sold their house in Mesa, Arizona and are now in Christopher Creek.
. Then while updating my PAST APPEARANCES spreadsheet, I spent about 45 minutes exploring functions of the VIEW pull-down menu with LibreOffice. I hope to spend a little time every day familiarizing myself with some of the LO (LibreOffice) features.
- I messed up my monthly Blog Rollover, trying to do it at Urban Beans before the show. I didn't notice that I was working in some wrong files. Today I got it all straightened out, downloading from my website online as backups.
- The comedy this evening was at
The 44 Sports Grill in Glendale. Small group so we each got seven minutes.
- On the way home I stopped by the 99¢ Only store for romaine lettuce, apples and eggs.
- Got to bed at 10:20
Mon Oct 5 = With my Booker's Hat on, I have been building up to this point and I finally got it done. For two weeks I have been organizing things to send finalizing emails out to the venues where I am booked for my 2021 tour. This morning I wrote email paragraphs for various things I needed to check with different posts. Then I just copied the paragraphs that applied to a post and pasted them into its email. Once I got to this point, I could get out an average of an email every six minutes. Altogether I got 14 emails sent; all the posts on the east-bound portion of my tour.
- Putting on my comedian hat, this evening I went through the first half of my hour comedy show. By the time I did the notes and tweaks it took about an hour and it was past my bedtime.
- Got to bed at 10:44.
Tue Oct 6 = This morning I sent out emails to the three veterans posts
in the eastern USt for my 2021 tour. It took an average of four minutes each. Then I tackled all eight veterans post scheduled on the westbound portion. It took an average of 5.5 minutes each. That was because I had to add two shows, which I had forgotten about, to my online schedule.
- How safe is your car? Are there recall alerts for it? Check out
safercar.gov by our NHTSA and
https://www.euroncap.com/en from Europe.
- About 1:30 I lay in the sun with my feet toward it, attempting to get a more even tan.
- Today's trip was to Fry's and Albertsons for some groceries on sale and to Anytime Fitness for a short light fast full-body workout.
- Got to bed at 10:18
Wed Oct 7 = As the new host for the
Urban Beans Verity show, wearing my Graphics Designer hat today, I analyzed the exporting of LibraOffice designs as JPGs and PDFs for my posters. Big job, but I am satisfied with the result. I can now print good quality 4' x 6' posters.
- Then, using the GIMP graphics editor, I learned to make the white background of the Urban Beans logo transparent and to export it as a PNG file. Below, left; with the original white background and to the right with the transparent background :)
- Continuing with my Graphics Designer dome, I started looking for outline musical instruments, books and note pads to use on the poster that will depict the range of entertainment on the variety show. I had to quit in the middle in order to leave for the gym (short slow heavy legs workout) and get to El Charro Hipster. For the first time there, I did my
Colonoscopy/Posture routine with a newly developed act-out. It was a hit!
- On the way home I did my semi-monthly grocery shopping at Wince and then looked for grapefruit. None of the three stores I checked had any.
- Instead of heading to bed like a good guy, I decided I'd find and download one musical instrument. Of course I did not stop there but got a bunch of them downloaded. That made me feel good, but I did not feel good about...
- getting to bed at 11:09 :(
Thu Oct 8 = This afternoon I downloaded a lot more, but bolder outlines for the Urban Beans poster and made all their backgrounds transparent. I got pretty good at that. Altogether I download and processed about 20 images. Here are the ones I settled on:
- Just before supper I took a 1.5 hour preemptive nap since I knew that I would be out late doing comedy the JP's Comedy Club's 9:30 show in Gilbert.
- Got to bed at 12:05am
Fri Oct 9 = Today I made some booking contacts by phone by email.
- I heard about this website to help people get started with financial concerns:
https://humbledollar.com/money-guide/main-menu.
-
- This evenings trip started with a stop by Harbor Freight for an 18" pipe wrench to use with my drip system's leaky 2.25" anti-siphon valve cap. Then on to an Office Max for a couple of color print-outs of the poster I finished tweaking earlier today.
- Then on toward
JP'S Comedy Club
in Gilbert. On the way I got a phone call from the Casa Grande VFW post and during my drive, the commander and I arranged this 7:00 show:
VFW Post 1677;
111 E 2nd St;
Casa Grande, AZ 8512. Then on to to see Ron More at JP's. All seven of the comedians did notable audience work. Ron, the headliner, did an excellent job with a somewhat dead audience.
- Got to bed at 10:48.
Sat Oct 10 = This morning I did a little final tweaking of my poster idea for the open mic.
- At solar noon, I sunned and then scooted off for my first hosting of the
Asside open mic at
Urban Beans. On the way I stopped by Office Max to print out a couple colored versions of the above poster since I do not have a color printer.
- It was neat hosting the open mic - I believe my first time hosting for a variety show. I ran four video cameras for my opening set. The audience of about 18 and the nine performers were a good bunch. Everyone got seven minutes. I had to give the one-minute light to only one person! Urban Beans gave me a check for hosting, which of course went to
- Duet
- The organization I support and through which I take non-driving seniors shopping and to their doctors' appointments
. Thanks Virginia.
- After the show, back at home, I downloaded the videos... only 12gb worth since I only recorded the first part of the show
- Got to bed at 10:37
Sun Oct 11 = What a full day! I didn't get out of the house until late afternoon.
- I received the monthly statement for
- Dahlia
- my Phoenix rental house located on Dahlia Drive
. Last month I had to fix two toilets and then replace one of them so my rental income was about half of normal this month.
- Three weeks ago I ordered a vacuum cleaner dust brush from Walmart. The USPS said delivery would be Oct third. Over a week later, no delivery yet.
- I got to
The 44 Sports Grill just as the stand up comedy show was starting, thanks to road construction, which I had anticipated, a detour, which I had anticipated, Sunday home-bound traffic, which I had anticipated and an accident, which I had NOT anticipated. The audience was made up of seven comedians. You know how that went... few laughs.
- On the way home I bought a big bag of 40% bran flakes at Winco and stopped by my credit union's high-tech ATM to deposit some cash from my T-Shirt sales.
- Got to bed at 10:58 :(
Mon Oct 12 = Things went like clockwork this morning. I rode my exercycle, fixed breakfast, took a bath and then tried to make a couple of phone calls. No one wanted to talk to me, which was OK so I could leave for my appointment.
- The 10am appointment with my ophthalmologist went well after I found their building. It took about 1.5 hours to do all the tests and evaluations. I didn't think my vision was that bad, but Dr. Duncan said I had significant cataracts. So I got scheduled to do the surgeries in December, using some of the latest laser technology. The high-tech lenses will be UV adjustable AFTER my eyes heal. I believe they change the lens's shape by converting specific areas of the its internal structure into polymers. Naturally these high-tech options are not covered by my insurance so will cost extra.
- On the way home I stopped by a CVS Drug store and got my flu shot. Piece of cake and they gave me a $5 off coupon on my next purchase of $20 or more.
- My evening project was unsuccessful - trying to get the money into Desert FCU to cover the check I wrote to Horizon Eye Specialists.
- Today I had planned to drive up to visit
- George & Cindy
- my younger brother and his wife sold their house in Mesa, Arizona and are now in Christopher Creek.
and to help them with some of their online banking, but it appears they don't have their Internet going yet on their Chrome Book. I realized how much I could get done here at home in the same four hours that I would be putting miles on my van, and decided it would be a lot more efficient to visit by phone, at least this time around.
- Got to bed at 10:38
Tue Oct 13 = Alexa woke me up an hour earlier than I expected. Sitll, I felt fairly well rested. We'll see how the rest of the day goes.
- This afternoon I spent some money. Since this is the before-Christmas expected lowest price time, I pulled the trigger with Best Buy on a couple of things I had previously researched: a new
Ninja BN701 blender and
Pixel 4a cell phone. The phone is the latest but not the fanciest. It is smaller and lighter than my current Nexus 6P, yet has a larger screen. I researched robo vacuum cleaners, but decided that one would not be worth its trouble.
- I was so excited about buying the stuff that I completely forgot about my 1pm oil change appointment at my nearby Brake Masters. Sorry, guys!
I DID get a lot accomplished instead of driving to Christopher Creek, including:
- downloading my checking account statement & getting it plugged into a spreadsheet
- resolving my checking account
- doing both my loads of laundry
- changing the sheets on my bed
- backing up my
- XPS
- Dell XPS-13 laptop computer with 13.3" touch screen, 60WHr Integrated Battery, Windows 10, Intel 7th Generation Core i7 CPU, 16gb memory and 1TB SSD
-
processing and producing Saturday afternoon's video from Urban Beans
- final research and ordering the blender
- final research and ordering the cell phone
- getting my little Alcatel computer updated to use in copying between external hard drives
- securely erasing an old 500gb external USB hard drive to giveaway
- phoning Vanguard and Arizona Federal CU about problems with their websites
- shuffling some money around to cover my cataract surgery check
- Got to bed at 10:34
Wed Oct 14 = I got myself in gear this morning and made some follow-up phone calls to posts which have not answered my email contract. That, of course takes some time.
- At solar noon I lay out in the Phoenix sun, had lunch and then scooted off on today's trip.
- Brakemasters for an oil change
- 99¢ Only for dental floss, romaine lettuce & bananas
- Best Buy down on Camelback for my new blender
- LA Fitness, Colonnade for a shower & short slow heavy legs workout
- El Charro Hipster to sign up early for the show, work on my computer and do the show
- My Famous routine went over as well as could be expected to a bunch of local comedians
- Walmart, DHL and the USPS teamed up for a horible delivery experience. They said the vacuum cleaner brush that I ordered on the fourth of this month would arrive two days later, on the sixth. It, indeed, arrived today after 11 days after taking a tour to colorado :(
- Got to bed at 10:34
Thu Oct 15 = I am impressed with my new
Ninja BN701 blender. For lunch I used it, for the first time, to make a smoothie, using some of my usual odd-meal lunch ingredients of cottage cheese, apple, grapes and ice. Adding the usual diced toast and sunflower seeds topped off the smoothie.
- Here's my old tired Hamelton Beach and new Ninja.
- This afternoon I took a nearly 2-hour nap in preparation for staying up late for comedy this evening.
- JP's Comedy Club went well with my
Dirt and
Stan routines. I sold my second 4XL T-Shirt. I was out of 3x and the young lady was happy with the 4x.
Liz Frisius, a comedian friend of mine snapped this picture with her cell phone
- Got to bed at 12:20am
Fri Oct 16 = Today I finished off my
Sweet Sapphire grapes (they look like goose turds), so now I have a little over over five pounds of red grapes left to eat. Yes, I bought too many. It is hard for me to resist a good sale.
- This afternoon I had a good visit with my daughter, Anne, catching up on her family's camping trips to Yellowstone and Pennsylvania to meet my son and her brother, Scott, and his family. They always enjoy getting together. PA was the Anne's first trip in their new camp trailer.
- I wanted to use my new blender to make a batch of my Protein Frosties but had to turn my ice maker back on first. If I leave it on all the time I end up with shriveled ice crescents, which the refrigerators dispenser does not crush properly. I'll make the frosties tomorrow.
- The neat Vicks 966 10-second, loud beeping, oral thermometer takes an oddball, CR1225 battery which was available nowhere about five months ago. I guess the world has gotten wise, because they ARE available now. Mine arrived this evening in the mail from Walmart.
- Generally, every day I am running out of time before I run out of things that need to be done. My urgent to-do list includes:
- Making a sign-up list for tomorrow's open mic
- Preparing the the set for my hosting tomorrow
- Making a new National Tour poster template
- Emailing a contract for the November Casa Grande show
- Composing a bulk email for my hosting and Stand Up Live on Nov 8th
- Updating my email list
- Sending out bulk emails for
- Announcing my appearances on Face Book & Twitter
- Following up on non-answered emails for shows that are already booked
- Update this Blog & other website pages
- Writing guidelines for opening comedians
- Fixing my leaky drip valve
- Got to bed at 10:29
Sat Oct 17 = I got a couple more booking calls or emails taken care of this morning.
- Hosting the variety show this afternoon at
Urban Beans was my second time and a lot of fun. After the show I helped wrap up some mic cords and the owners and I shared our visions for the show. Neat!
- I had read that
JUGGLING has been shown to give older brains a boost. Then online:
JUGGLING boosts brain development. Research indicates that learning to juggle accelerates the growth of neural connections related to memory, focus, movement, and vision, especially with aging adults. The beneficial changes persist even after weeks without practice.
So on the way home I stopped by a Dollar Tree and bought three
Stretch Rainbow Balls and, at home online, found instructions and a couple of videos for beginners.
- Got to bed at 11:01
Sun Oct 18 = I had so many things going on today that, by the time I remembered to lay in the sun it was past the prime time so I forgot it.
- When I'd get drowsy today, I'd spend a few minutes with online
JUGGLING instruction and then four minutes practicing. Got up to one ball and one hand. this morning. Later I graduated to one ball and two hands. That needs more practice.
- I have been familiarizing myself with a Canon P27-DH desk-top calculator I bought last night at Goodwill. Everything works, including its two-color printer. It is a lot more capable and user friendly than the Casio HR-100TM that I have been putting up with for 2.5 years since I bought it new at Target. The Casio's AC adapter is the wrong polarity. However, I can't believe my good luck. The Canon uses the same ink roller as the Casio - good news because I have a new spare on hand :)
- After I plugged my cell phones together, trying to transfer my stuff to the new one, the old one locked up
preparing to transfer
for about five hours. During that time I went to the
The 44 Sports Grill to do some comedy. When I got back home the phone was still
preparing to transfer
until I unplugged and inverted the cable in the old phone. Then I got most everything transfered.
- Although my new Google Pixel 4a (right) is smaller than my old Nexus 6P (left), it has a larger screen :)
- Got to bed at 10:18
Mon Oct 19 = At solar noon noon I lay in the sun.
- Today's trip was to get my tires rotated then to Dollar Tree for three balls to use for learning to
JUGGLE. I just guessed, but found out later, that the balls I bought were the same weight as and a third larger than expensive beginners'
JUGGLING balls
from Walmart.
- Then to EsportaFitness for a short slow heavy arms workout, forgetting that I had done one a couple days earlier.
- This evening I finished the 2'x3' poster for my Casa Grande show, using a couple of temporary fields to change when I receive the final information.
- After a day's use my new Pixel 4a battery still had a 77% battery.
- Got to bed at 10:38
Tue Oct 20 = This morning I finally watched the last Tonight Show monologue that I had my DVR record in June during my
Veterans Appreciation National Tour tour.
- For
JUGGLING I started focusing on swooping from outside to inside, still using one ball with both hands.
- In the afternoon I went to LA Fitness for a slow heavy partial torso workout, doing some of the exercises for which I do not have good equipment in my home gym, like lateral straight-arm dual cable pull-downs and torso rotations. On the way home, Bashas for grapes on sale.
- This evening I watched my first webinar - about BPH solutions with a urologist
- Got to bed at 10:46 :(
Wed Oct 21 = Today's big trip started at LA Fitness with a short slow heavy legs workout, then to
El Charro Hipster where I arrived about 40 minutes before the show and was 24th on the list. I did my
Dominican Republic Hand routine and sold one T-Shirt.
- Liz Frisius, a comedian friend of mine, snapped this picture with her cell phone.
I've Got T-Shirts
- On the way home I did my semi-monthly grocery shopping at Winco. That's why...
- I got to bed at 11:43 :(
Thu Oct 22 = I got up early, made a phone call to Florence and went back to bed for about two hours until my alarm time. Joan, manager of the Florence, AZ American Legion post and I mutually agreed that we should cancel the show. Let's just say that our modus operandi are totally different and incompatible.
- This afternoon I took a 1.5-hour nap in anticipation for being out late for the JP's Comedy open mic.
- I was the first comedian to arrive about an hour before the show was to start at 9:30. I squandered my lead by looking for an AC adapter at the Good Will Store next door. By the time I got back to the club, I was number seven on the list.
- The audience appreciated my
Holding routine. I left before the end of the show and headed straight home - 40 miles!
- Got to bed at 11:57
Fri Oct 23 = I am getting a little better at
JUGGLING... at this point, one ball with two hands. I am working on immproving my aim and accuracy.
- At solar noon I lay out in the sun
- It seems like it took me half a day to send out 487 emails to people in the Phoenix area who have requested to be on my email list. Most of the time was spent trying to figure out how to DELETE my old audience before uploading my revised version.
- For
JUGGLING, this evening I tried two balls. It was hopeless. I didn't get even close to catching even one ball one time. So I think I'll continue short sessions practicing on accuracy with one ball and, then once a day, just for kicks, try two balls.
-
- Got to bed at 10:13
Sat Oct 24 = On a phone call this morning I got called, "Hun" - well, I DO go by Lou. At least they didn't say, "Thank you, mam."
- Since it is likely the last
Asside Open Mic at
Urban Beans with temperatures in the mid 80's, I did the hosting in cargo shorts and my conservative Arizona Lou tanktop gym shirt.
- On the way home from the show I stopped by the Colonnade LA Fitness for a short heavy slow torso workout. Then this evening I updated my Announcing Show Slips. It went slowly because, at the same time I watched Wednesday's presidential debate.
- At bedtime I did a one-ball
JUGGLING practice and then tried two balls. I did better than last night. I actually touched one of the descending balls. Eventually I expect to get good enough to actually catch one.
- Got to bed at 10:43.
Sun Oct 25 = This morning I reviewed the instructional
JUGGLING videos so, still using one ball and both hands, am focusing on keeping my elbows in, keeping the balls in one plane, more accuracy and getting the ball in the air more quickly. Also, after catching a ball, move my hand down and
scoop
to wind-up for the next throw. I learned that it is better to drop a ball with good form than to catch a ball way out, with bad form. A good exercise was throwing three balls up in turn without trying to catch them. My biggest problem is accuracy in throwing.
- I kicked my printer stand with my right pinky toe, which I hurt a little over a month ago on Sep 22 by kicking my workout bench. Today's kick knocked off most of the old scab, which was about ready to come off anyway. No blood, but pain!
- This afternoon I drove out to
The 44 Sports Grill for Panciano's open mic there. I did, for the first time, my new
JUGGLING bit.
- This evening I retrieved my old no-name glass scale, put in a pair of new CR2032s and set it up beside my Wyze scale. Although the Wyze gives you a lot of marginally useful information, its weight seems to be inconsistent and the scale does not always connect via Bluetooth to my phone. For several days I will track my weight with both scales then probably quit using the Wyze scale. Anyone want a barely used Wyze scale?
- I am enjoying my
new Goodwill Canon P27-DH calculator. It can even print out the date and time :)
- Got to bed at 10:15
Mon Oct 26 = By 10:33 this morning I got all my pending veterans' post contacts caught up with phone calls and emails :)
- Then, I tagged 9 email addresses of my fans via MailChimp as cleaned (not deliverable and 2% of my list) and one email address as unsubscribed (.2% of my list). That took a while because, at the same time, I added the procedure as Best Practice in my MailChimp Notes file.
- This afternoon I tried to figure out the feedback frequency for the guitars at the Urban Beans open mic and then impulsed by adding, to my Definitions web page, this
musical notes image and a link to a
chart with frequencies and wavelengths. The feedback frequency is approximately 100 Hz.
- To one of my 5 terabyte hard drives, I started downloading all the Google information I exported, as a backup. 134 gigabytes of zipped stuff.
- It took me about two hours to put a reduced resolution image of my Casa Grande poster on the POSTERS section of my home page. Don't know what I was doing wrong, but now it's
up there. Whew!
- Got to bed at 10:00. I had to get up and pee only once, at which time I spent about 3 minutes practicing
JUGGLING, added some covers due to a cold snap and about 25 minutes initiating ten more Google backup downloads, which will take about an hour.
Tue Oct 27 = Being down to a total of 32 shirts, out of XXX and having only two Ls, this morning I ordered 49 more
Comedy T-Shirts from
Design A Shirt, my supplier.
- At solar noon I sunned.
- For today's trip, this evening I bought six loves of multi-grain bread at 99¢ Only, did a light full-body workout at Esporta Fitness and bought green-leaf lettuce at Fry's.
- Later, when I was supposed to be updating my PAST COMEDY APPEARANCES, I took a Fry's survey so I could rag on them about their substandard non-TOP TIER gasoline. Then, using a PDF instructions file, learned how to use my
new
calculator for time calculations. That might come in handy next time I analyze the laughs at one of my comedy appearances.
- Got to bed at 10:32.
Wed Oct 28 =
I've got a birthday in one more month!
was my cry, running around the house, when I was just old enough to know about calendars (probably 5).
- This afternoon I cut my hairs (gave myself a haircut), did a
- poster trim
- weekly trimming of my beard, eye brows and little quiff so I match my poster photos
,
and then headed off on my trip... to LA Fitness on W Northern for a shower and short slow heavy legs workout. Then, on the way to comedy, I had the first frozen Protein Frosty I made with my new blender. Pretty good.
- At
El Charro Hipster I signed up for number four on the comedian list and then went out to my van and phoned the
American Legion Post 54 in Coolidge, southeast of Phoenix. Doug Stinson, Planning Committee Chair there, and I officially booked one of my hour shows for January 15th, 2021. We worked out most of the details :) Then into El Charro with my computer to work on the email contract for the Coolidge show and to do my new
Juggling set.
- Got to bed at 10:15
Thu Oct 29 = Some good family time today... over the phone.
- Shane
- My nephew, George's son who is an engineer for a high-tech company
phoned. I helped him with a multiple computer monitor problem and we talked about getting older and staying healthy. Then I phoned
- Cindy
- my younger brother George's wife
and we visited about all sorts of things.
- The middle of the afternoon I took my usual Thursday preemptive nap, 1:45 today.
- For the first time, I left home in time to get just about everything in for my Thursday evening. I stopped by the Gilbert Planet Fitness for a shower and a short slow heavy legs workout and then on to JP'S Comedy Club where I signed up number four on the list. Then next door to try out
King Wok. I bought their hot vegetables, which included a sauce and a whole lot more calories than I needed. It also had some chicken-like stuff, only it was softer.
- JP's show was good. I combined some old and new stuff
- Got to bed at 12:06am
Fri Oct 30 = I never left the house today, not even for the mail box, but got serious about my new Pixel 4a cell phone and installed Cinema FV-5 (camcorder app) SleepBot (sleep/alarm app that is a day off on its alarms) and the Wyze app for my Wyze camera and Wyse scale.
- Setting up Cinema FV-5, it seems like I did everything wrong at least one time, but finally got the app installed, checked out and working to my satisfaction on my new Pixel4a. The thing that took the longest was getting the correct file prefix, unique to this phone. That part of their app is not intuitive. Now, when I get in a hurry or careless, there will be no question from which camera a video came.
- I watched some excellent videos of Seth Godin, Don Miller and Dave Ramsey discussing ideas about successful small businesses. I took notes and, hopefully, will be able to apply some of them to
Arizona Lou Comedy.
- Got to bed at 11:25 :(
Sat Oct 31 = for the last few days I have been unable to find my tiny
Plantronics Explorer 102 Bluetooth headset. Since I added special ear pads with an ear hook, it was so comfortable that I would forget that that I was wearing it. Once I even did an entire hour of comedy in Alaska without realizing I had it in my ear... until I watched my video. So today I scrounged out some old Bluetooth headsets and got a bulky Plantronics Voyager Legend knock-off working.
Plantronics Explorer 102, to which I added a blue ear hook, being charged with a micro USB cable. This unit is so small and secure you don't even know you're wearing it. It also has pretty good sound.
- At solar noon I lay in the sun for 20 minutes, had lunch and scooted off on my trip of the day.
- The
Asside Open Mic was interesting, to say the least. Nathanial, the producer of the show and a co-owner of the Urban Beans venue, was nowhere to be seen at show time. Evidently something had come up. Anthony, one of the good guys working at Urban Beans set out the stage ahead of time, so at showtime I started a jam session with Uncle Dave on the banjo, Eddie Detroit on the mandolin and Jeff on the bongo. After about 10 minutes of that, Nathanial arrived and he and I set up the PA system and we had the Halloween edition of the show.
- On the way home I did a short slow heavy torso workout at the Colonnade LA Fitness gym.
