Note: While not kiteboarding, I plan to update my blog weekly - or when something special happens.
Wed 11/25 - The past week I had annual checkups with my doctor and allergist. Both think I am going to live.
- I got my Dahlia house rented, by PropertyAZ. The new tenants appear to be pretty good: He is a policeman and she is a former credit union teller and is now studying for her teaching certificate.
- I took my 1960 era McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology to Monday's ham radio meeting and sold it to Clark Jones (the oscilloscope guy) for $45. That was better than going to all the trouble of putting it up on eBay. I hated to see the encyclopedia go, but I need the shelf space for all my HTML and website books.
- While fixing meals etc., I am listening to lots and lots of my favorite talk shows from the past from when I was on my trips about two years ago. It is interesting hearing talk about things that are going to happen that have already happened.
- This morning I got a van fuel tank seal replaced so I won't smell gas after I top the tank off.
- Yesterday I trimmed the natal plums out front and washed my van! Always makes me feel good.
Wed 11/18 - Thursday I got up at 4:30 am to fly from Phoenix to Huntsville (eight hours after booking the flight - my first Priceline booking) and then drive to Lowes, KY for my cousin, ML's, funeral. It was a privilege to spend four delightful days with the family. Although the occasion was a sad one, ML's life inspired all of us. He had died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep. Some of the people from the Self side were Nancy, Leon, Dana & Brian, Morris and Lou (me); and from the Puckett side: Nancy, Ovell, Ovi, Troy and Chan, I am glad I was able to help them with the website, email and computers connected with their business of manufacturing machines for making pallets, Bronco Pallet Systems, Inc.
- It is amazing how much time it can take to get parts for my new refrigerator - an additional freezer shelf (a very expensive vinyl-covered wire rack) and an additional refrigerator shelf. I don't have the shelves yet, but am closer. I want four shelves in the freezer and four shelves in the refrigerator. It only came with three in each.
- Today I went shopping with Lavonne, my Duet shopping companion.
Wed 11/11 - The scientist in me came out this week, calibrating wireless thermometers and measuring the temperatures in various locations in my new refrigerator and measuring the battery run and charge times for my Waterproof Camcorder.
Also I finally got around to working on my Stupidity web page. Check out the new Endangered Species Stupidity there.
- In preparation for a spur-of-the-moment kiteboarding trip such as to Mexico, I measured out eight days of nuts and such, so all I'll have to do is throw in a plastic bag.
- Monday evening after Bally's gym, I fixed up a FOR RENTT sign and stuck it in the yard of my Dahlia rental house. Like magic I got two phone calls on Tuesday
- At Gang Plank tonight I had my first Priceline experience, studying and bidding on flights to Huntsville, AL and car rental to Lowes, KY. My cousin, M L, few years older than me, died in his sleep. That's the way I'd like to go. My best to Nancy and the rest of the family. Now I've got to scoot home and pack, only to leave home at 4:30 tomorrow morning.
Wed 11/4 - Thursday morning Home Depot delivered my new Energy Star side-by-side refrigerator. Good news, it consumes about half the electricity, makes ice faster, cubed/crushed ice and water are through the door and I don't have stoop and dodge the top freezer door to access the refrigerator section. Bad news, the refrigerator half door is more in the way and it lacks all the drawers and compartments of the fancy old one, which I had purchased used. I figure the new one will pay for itself in about four years. A little DuPont Teflon/Silicone spray made the obstinate new drawers and shelves glide like a dream.
- I anticipated some fireworks at our HOA Board meeting Thursday. However it turns out that the board and homeowners have pretty much the same concerns - spending within our means and keeping the place up.
- Thinking of a future replacement for my van, Saturday I measured and fit some of my drawer units and test drove a 2010 Toyota Sienna. I think that will be my choice when it comes time to replace mo 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan, although the old one is doing what it needs to do at this time. Also tweaking a new van like my old one would be a major undertaking.
- My project this morning was to remove the sun screens from four of my south and west-facing windows. That will make the house brighter and also allow increased solar heating during the day to save gas as the nights get cooler.
